Zoologisches Museum, Hamburg
As is standard for whenever I visit a new place, I endeavoured to explore the local natural history museum. The Zoological Museum in Hamburg is one of a string of museums owned by the university, the others; the Mineralogical Museum and the Geological-Paleontological Museum were also on the list but given our time restraints and the fact that both Sarah and I were sick as dogs, we needed to be reasonable.
The museum has a really beautiful collection of taxidermy, is free and isn’t overwhelmingly large in size. If you find yourself in Hamburg with a spare afternoon on your hands and are drawn to the macabre beauty and intrigue of natural history museums then this is for you.
It’s also just down the road from the botanical gardens Planten un Blomen (the green heart of the city).
