Chinese Light Festival, Ouwehand Zoo
It was a family trip out to see the lanterns at Ouwehand Zoo, and I didn’t really think much about it until the evening came. After a gezellig dinner of homemade pizzas, cheese nibbles and fresh balsamic drizzled salad leaves, cups of tea and lots of chatting, we all bundled up in the car for the 20 minute drive to the Zoo. Of course, all the animals were asleep, or hiding, or shut behind closed doors, while their lantern sculpture counterparts stood tall and bright in the darkness. My favourites included a family of gorillas playing amidst giant flowers and tiny, vine-covered trees, a collection of the angriest ducklings you’ve ever seen and the petals of giant, glowing flowers that opened and closed over and over again.
