Postcards from Reykjavik

This holiday was a last minute, spontaneous booking and our first holiday together (!), that came about after watching the Iceland episode of Travel Man and finding return flights for 50 quid. Being mid-October this close to the Arctic of course meant we’ve had to wrap up hella hard but it’s also made the experience of hot springs feel 10x more luxurious and wonderful.

Highlights include the food we had at Gló, vegan and mouthwatering, and let’s be real, incredibly expensive. We ate our first and last dinner of the holiday there, but the rest of the time we cooked in our lovely wee attic Airbnb (buying ingredients is honestly so much cheaper and easier with a vegan and a celiac in town). We made a game of spotting adorable and brightly coloured homes, graffiti art, fairy lights in trees and cats, of which there were many. We went to the top of the church that looks like a space rocket (Hallgrimskirkja) and got a view of the entire city, and then we went to the Penis Museum which was horrifying and scientifically fascinating in equal measure.

Then we rented a little red car and hit the roads for some roadtrippin to see waterfalls, geysers and that famous black sand, but that’s another story…
